My Prior Knowledge

       Growing up in a small southwestern community in Ontario I was very sheltered from the realities of the real world. The community that I grew up in was predominantly white and the majority of the community was upper middle class. This experience led me to be extremely ignorant of diversity and in fact, if I had been asked previous to the beginning of this course what diversity meant to me I would have responded with an answer regarding culture and race. Welcome to my blog

       Hello there, and welcome to my blog. This blog focuses on my journey before, through and beyond my time in my diversity class. The blog that I have created is meant to document my lack of previous knowledge, learning throughout the course and experiences in the educational system with First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples. Throughout the course of this blog I hope to not only reflect on the learning that I have done throughout the semester but also to look deeper into the issues that plague various First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities and unpack ideas that can help lead to greater confidence and representation of these communities in the courses that I am passionate about, specifically physical education and biology.
